Do you use used oil drums for the furniture?
No. We exclusively use newly manufactured oil drums from the Port of Hamburg – in sizes of 60 litres and 210 litres. Used industrial drums cannot be cleaned to a standard suitable for living spaces for hygiene reasons, which is why we deliberately work with brand-new material.
What drum sizes are available and what are they used for?
There are two sizes: small 60-litre drums, which are used to make items such as bedside tables and side tables, and large 210-litre drums, which form the basis for coffee tables, home bars and hi-fi cabinets.
How is the furniture made?
We hand-cut every drum into one of around 30 cutting designs, then powder-coat it in the desired colour, and finally assemble it by hand.
Where do you produce?
The furniture workshop is just 20 minutes from our shop in Hamburg's Karolinenviertel, in the Ochsenwerder district. We still build all our book products directly in the shop.
Can I supply my own drum for my drum furniture piece?
Unfortunately, most drums turn out to be so different that we either can't use our templates on them, or the inside of the drum isn't coated properly. Feel free to send us a photo though – we can usually tell quickly. Ultimately, working with customer-supplied drums always involves more effort than our usual process.
How long does production take?
Usually 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the extent of individual customisation or the quantity involved for a series.
Can I have my piece of furniture custom-designed?
Yes, gladly! Colour (from 16 powder-coating options or custom RAL shades), cutting design, tabletop material, castors and other accessories can all be freely combined – from a one-off piece to an identical series.
Does Lockengelöt also supply larger quantities, for example for hotels?
Yes, alongside one-off pieces and small batches, Lockengelöt also produces larger, identical series – for example, 50 bedside tables for the Cube Apartments Hamburg.
Where do you ship to?
We ship from Hamburg throughout Germany and internationally. Furniture is always shipped on Thursdays.
How long has Lockengelöt been around, and where is the furniture made?
Lockengelöt has been making furniture from unusual materials in Hamburg (Marktstr. 114, 20357 Hamburg) for over 20 years – from oil-drum furniture to objects made from books, skateboards and vinyl records.
What are Lockengelöt's sustainability criteria?

Can I donate records to you for your vinyl recycling?
We currently have enough records, but if you have any that aren't schlager or classical music, get in touch – we'd love to hear from you!
